From the shuttle-bus drop-off point on Piazza Garibaldi, the main Via Nazionale – known locally as Ruga Piana (the flat walk) because it is the only level street in town – leads to the two main caffè-filled squares, Piazza della Repubblica and Piazza Signorelli. The former has the 13th-century Palazzo Comunale (town hall), the tower and steps added much later in the early 16th century, while the latter slopes up past the Teatro Signorelli.
